Our school provides an academic setting for limitless learning through individualized, developmentally informed education and care of children ages 18 months through 13 years.
Lakeview Montessori School was founded by Ms. Janice Mayhew in 1978. It was originally located in St. Mark's Church Hall, St. Clair Beach, with an enrolment of 15 students. With a quickly expanding student population, L.M.S. soon outgrew its initial location and in January 1980 moved to St. Andrew's Church Hall in Puce.

The parents of the school took over its operation in 1981 and registered it as a non-profit organization (incorporated November 2, 1981).The school has since been granted charitable organization status. An elected board of directors oversees the operation of the school

Steadily increasing enrolment and the desire to provide a stable academic environment by virtue of a permanent locale prompted the move to our present site in the summer of 1984. L.M.S. purchased our Casa/Toddler building in 1985. As enrolment increased, it became necessary to rent our second building at 13797 Riverside Drive East in September 1987. and purchased in August 1995.

In January 1989, we introduced our Toddler and Casa programmes which were housed in our 13803 Riverside Drive building.  After school activities of tutoring, music lessons etc. commenced in September 1995.  These programmes, as well as additional arts and crafts, movement, French and Spanish classes, have proven to be very successful, with enrolment increasing each year.

In 1994, plans and fundraising for a new building commenced. This culminated in our older building being torn down in June 1998 and our new 6,500 square foot, 2 storey addition being built over the next 6 months. During construction classes were housed in in our remaining  building and in rented premises at St. Andrews Church Hall. Staff, students and parents very very happy to have all classes and offices under one roof in January 1999. This new facility gave us additional spaces so that we could house 6 classrooms, a library, offices, reception area, learning materials area, a spacious staff room and a beautiful kitchen. In 2000, our learning materials were moved to "The Learning Store" so that we could use the space for a 7th classroom.

In January 2004 we purchased the property next door to our main location, which enabled us to open our 8th classroom, a second toddler class. On June 30, 2005 Lakeview acquired the property at 13825 Riverside Dr. East which was renovated for use for our two Junior elementary classes. This enabled the creation of a Casa 3 and Pre-junior class in our main building.

Our building was further expanded in 2006 to accommodate 9 classrooms plus Music room, Multi purpose/meeting room, outdoor storage and a larger library.  Our 13825 building is now used for our Learning Store and a mini gym for physical education classes, etc.

Lakeview has grown dramatically over the last few years with enrolment of 180 students in 2007.  Lakeview Montessori School will continue to grow as the requirements of our community dictate
